Citrus and Sea: A Coastal-Inspired Brunch Board

If I could eat every meal on a board, I probably would. And not just because it makes me feel like a slightly chaotic French hostess who threw this together “effortlessly” with zero crumbs in her kitchen. (There are definitely crumbs.)

The truth is, food on boards doesn’t ask much of you. No rules. No formality. Just a gathering of flavors and textures — a bit like tapas, a bit like a vacation, a bit like you knew what you were doing all along.

It’s the edible equivalent of “don’t take life too seriously,” and I mean that in the best, butteriest way.

So here’s your invitation to brunch coastal-style: sun-warmed citrus, sea-salty nibbles, herbs, carbs, and a clink of something sparkling. It’s brunch with sandy toes and linen napkins. A little elegant. A little wild. All you.

This board was born from a craving: something bright, breezy, fresh. Something that feels like you’re sitting near an open window, or better yet, a boardwalk. Like your brunch wandered in from a beach picnic in Amalfi or a seaside café in Carmel.

We’re layering sunshine and salt. Citrus and cream. Crunch and coolness.
Because balance is beautiful — and butter is healthy when you’re happy.

Build it however you like — but here’s what I love to include:

  • Sliced blood oranges, grapefruit, and Cara Cara oranges
  • Lemon or lime zest on berries
  • Figs (if you can find them), melon, or golden kiwi
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish
  • Whipped goat cheese with lemon zest
  • Burrata or mozzarella pearls
  • Manchego or sharp white cheddar
Bonus: Drizzle goat cheese with honey and black pepper
  • Smoked salmon (mild, not too fishy)
  • Lemon-herb grilled chicken slices or chilled crab
  • Scallop ceviche cups (if you’re fancy)
  • I also love to include proscuitto, which deserves a spot on EVERY board!
  • Thin slices of homemade bread (yes, we eat bread here)
  • Olive oil crackers
  • Mini croissants
  • Sea salt pita chips
  • Citrus marmalade
  • Herbed butter (softened with lemon zest + parsley)
  • Avocado slices with chili flakes
  • Capers, olives, cucumber ribbons

A sparkling sip that feels like brunch on the Amalfi coast.

Ingredients:

  • 1 part prosecco or cava
  • 1 part blood orange juice
  • Splash of limoncello
  • Garnish with a rosemary sprig or orange twist
  • 2 parts blood orange juice
  • 1 part sparkling water
  • Splash of lime
  • Optional: muddle basil or mint
  • Cold brew coffee over ice
  • Dash of rosemary simple syrup
  • Splash of cream or oat milk
  • Garnish with a tiny rosemary sprig if you’re feeling extra

This board isn’t just brunch — it’s a love letter to slow mornings, real food, and the kind of light that makes shadows on your kitchen table.

So lay out the board. Pour the bubbly. Forget the rules. Use real butter. Eat the bread. Laugh with someone. Lick marmalade off your thumb and don’t apologize for it.

This is your Citrus & Sea moment. And you don’t need a brunch reservation to have it.
